Dodge Facts

Dodge began making vehicles in 1914. The brand was bought by Chrysler Corporation in 1928, and is now a part of the Chrysler Group LLC, which is a partnership between American Chrysler and Italian automaker Fiat. Dodge did quite a bit to save Chrysler during the troubled 1980s by developing the now-iconic Dodge Caravan. Not only did the Caravan prove to be a durable workhorse, it was responsible for launching the then-new concept of the minivan. Since the late 1990s, Dodge has represented Chrysler’s more modest price division as well as its performance car division. The redesigned Dodge Charger, reminiscent of the muscle car of the 1960s and 70s was launched in 2006 and became very popular. In 2008, the new Dodge Challenger made its debut, with a design strongly recalling the original 1970 Dodge Challenger. Dodge’s current line-up additionally includes the Avenger, Caliber, Viper (all passenger cars), the Journey crossover vehicle, Nitro and Durango (SUVs) and the Grand Caravan minivan.
